Diwali Celebration In Udaipur

One of the most celebrated festivals of India is Diwali. Known by various names as Divali, Deepavali or Deepawali, Diwali festival is also referred as Festival of Lights. The origin of the word comprises two words: Deepa which means light or lamp and Avali which means a row. Thus Deepawali stands for Row of Lights. It is celebrated on Amavasya or 'no moon day', which comes after every fortnight in the month of Kartik, usually in the month of October and November.
This festival is associated with various legends. One popular legend is that it is celebrated to welcome Lord Rama, when he comes back to Ayodhya after 14 years after slaying King Ravana. Since the night was dark, people welcomed him by lighting diyas all around their house and streets. Thus this festival symbolises the end of ignorance (darkness) and beginning of knowledge (light) that enlightens all. It is celebrated by lighting crackers and exchanging Diwali Greetings & gifts with loved ones.
